One killed in a fire crash on Loop 202 east of Mesa


A person was killed after a gun crash in Ring 202 east of the Red Mountain in East Mesa. It happened just before 5 a.m. on the eastbound lanes near Main Street / Apache Trail.

According to the Public Security Department, a car climbed onto the bridge, crashed into a wall, and then caught fire. Fire and smoke were visible on the ADOT traffic camera in the area. DPS says the car was traveling very fast when it crashed. Video from the scene showed the worn out wreck.

No further details were immediately available, but DPS said the fire department had confirmed one person had been killed.

ADOT said northbound lanes are closed on Broadway. There is no estimated time to reopen the highway.
