Authorities said a North Carolina mother of five was accidentally killed after one of her children found a gun stuffed in her bag.
Police responded to Gabrielle Henderson’s apartment in Cornelius around 7 p.m., finding her dead in a bedroom in the back of the house, according to the Cornelius Police Department.
Police said officers also found a small semi-automatic pistol on the bed.
They think children found the weapon in their mothers’ bag. It was not clear who fired the weapon.
Henderson‘s youngest child was also shot and taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said the only people inside the apartment during the shooting were Henderson and her five children.
Police officers said that four of the children were in the room at the time of the shooting.
