Police said that a shooting at a hotel in a Chicago killed one person and wounded several others.
Police said in a press release that officers, who responded at around 2:35 am to a report of the shooting on the fifth floor of the Indian Lakes Hotel in the village of Bloomingdale, saw several people fleeing the hotel and found “several apparently gunshot victims” inside. .
The victims were taken to area hospitals, Frank Giamares, director of Public Safety in Bloomingdale, where it was later announced that a man in his late twenties had died. It was not clear exactly how many other people were shot or their circumstances.
He said that one or more suspects may have escaped after the shooting in which no police officers were shot. It was not clear what triggered the shooting.
In a post, the Bloomingdale Police Department’s Facebook page asked the public to avoid the area if possible, but added that “there is no known imminent threat to any member of the community.”
Located about 30 miles (48 kilometers) west of downtown Chicago, the five-story Indian Lakes Hotel boasts 300 recently renovated rooms and more than 7,000 square feet (650 square meters) of event space, according to the resort’s website.
