Authorities say two people died when a small plane crashed shortly after taking off from South Wisconsin Regional Airport in Jannisville.
The Rock County Police Department said someone on the plane had reported a problem to the airport tower before the tower lost contact around 9:27 a.m. Investigators believe the pilot was trying to return to the airport when the plane crashed about one mile south of the airport near the airport. The plane appeared to hit some trees before crashing. The authorities said that the wings had blown off the plane.
The aircraft was described as a test aircraft, but no further description was available. The names of the victims were not disclosed.
