A 14-year-old boy is expected to be tried in Maryland after he was charged with the rape and murder of an 83-year-old elderly woman, according to a Baltimore police source.
Child laws in Maryland allow child Tyrone Harvin to be tried as an adult even though he is less than 14 years old
Harvin was accused of sexually assaulting 83-year-old Dorothy May Neal, before he severely beat her to death after she was taken to hospital where doctors tried to save her unsuccessfully.
The police spokesman expressed his surprise that a young child committed such a heinous crime against an old woman.
He added, “We thought that a strong young man was the one who committed this heinous act. He did not know that a young boy was the criminal.”
Smith explained that Harvin was charged with first-degree murder and rape, in addition to many other charges.
According to the court’s online records, a preliminary hearing is set to take place to consider Harvin’s charges
