2 children killed, one injured in a shooting in Ohio

Authorities in Toledo, Ohio say two children were killed and a third wounded in a shooting.

Tweets from the Toledo police said their mother’s friend shot the children “during a house dispute”. Police said on Twitter that the third child was in critical condition and had continued “fighting for life.”

“We believe we have the responsible man in custody,” Toledo Police Lieutenant Daniel Gerkin told the media at the scene. A police tweet later identified the suspect as Kevin Moore, who had been arrested and held in Lucas County Jail. The prison’s online reservation records weren’t updated to include Moore recently and it’s unclear if he has a lawyer to speak on his behalf.

Jerkin added that the shooting took place inside an apartment. The unit is part of the Byrneport Apartments in West Toledo, just off the Airport Highway and just over a mile north of the University of Toledo Medical Center.

No further details were immediately released, including the names and ages of the children.

“Please pray for these victims, their families, and the first responders who were at the site tonight,” Toledo Police Chief George Krall wrote on Twitter. “This was a really sad night for our community.
