Two men were killed after a shooting at a gas station in Jackson.

According to a statement from the Jackson Police Department, Christopher Lee, 28, was shot multiple times inside a GASCO gas station on the 1000 block of West Woodrow Wilson Street at noon. Investigators believe he was ambushed by three other men inside the company. Lee died at the scene.

Two men are currently in custody in connection with the shooting. A third man, Justin Barty, 33, died of wounds sustained at the scene. Police spokesman Sam Browne said investigators learned that Barty was injured multiple times by Lee. Barty was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center by the other men for treatment, where he died.

The capital recorded the most homicides in its history in 2020, which police have attributed largely to personal disputes and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Jackson had 130 murders over the course of the year. That’s an increase of 38 deaths from the previous record of 92 homicides in 1995, according to FBI data.
