The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed five people and hospitalized four.
The accident happened at 3:33 am, half a mile east of Matisse in San Patricio County.
According to the DPS, a Toyota Camry driver with one driver and three passengers was traveling south in the northbound lane on the IH-37. The driver of a Dodge Grand Caravan and four passengers were traveling north on the IH-37, “when Toyota collided with a Dodge truck in the left lane.”
DPS soldiers say the driver and three passengers of a Toyota Camry have been pronounced dead, and one passenger has been ejected from the vehicle.
It also announced the death of a Dodge passenger at the scene. DPS Soldiers also say four Dodge Caravan were taken by ground ambulance to Spohn Shoreline at Corpus Christi.
According to the PSD, two people were listed in critical condition with life-threatening injuries and the other two were said to have severe injuries.
DPS Troopers is investigating the crash.
