3 dead in an apartment in Jacksonville; Several were arrested after the chase

Authorities said three people were killed after a shooting in a Northwest Jacksonville apartment complex, and several people were arrested after chasing a stolen car that police saw leaving the area.

The shooting occurred around 11:50 p.m. At Calloway Cove Apartments, off West Moncrief near Cleveland Road.

A homicide detective in the sheriff’s office in Jacksonville said her gang unit was working on a mission near the apartment complex when officers heard gunfire nearby and saw a car that appeared to be fleeing the scene.

The car, which the police say was stolen from Clay County, drove the officers on a chase for several miles before an officer finally stopped it using a pit maneuver.

Police said they detained several people and confiscated weapons from the car. The investigation led the officers to Building E in the complex, where they found two men and a woman dead in an apartment.

According to multiple sources, there are five suspects, some of them minors, including a 14-year-old man. Sources identified one of the suspects, 18-year-old Keon Lister, who is accused of criminal conspiracy in a first degree criminal offense or for life.

She told a neighbor that she heard what appeared to be an estimated 20-30 gunshots at the compound early Tuesday.

The presence of the JSO gang unit will be key to the case, said Ken Jefferson, a crime and safety expert.

“The gang squad just happens to be in the area, and apparently it is already investigating gang activity, and it’s fortunate to hear bullets when they launch, otherwise you will have response time for units to get there and those suspects who have escaped from,” Jefferson said. For a long time”.

The apartment complex is about three blocks away where a 19-year-old was shot dead last month. Police said more than 100 people were in the area at the time, but no one provided information on the case.

The region has been grappling with violent crime for years. In 2015, Jacksonville City Council identified 4229 Mongrave Road as one of the best locations in the city where you are most likely to be a victim of violent crime.

In 2018, the Millennia Companies bought the complex at 4229 W. Moncrief Road and spent $ 10.6 million on renovations. A company spokesperson issued a statement in response to the violence.

“We are saddened by this violence and sympathize with those affected by the incident,” the statement said in part. “Our property management and leadership teams are deeply involved in responding to this event and collaborating with law enforcement officials as they continue their investigation. For those who may need help coping during this challenging time, we have provided advisors to residents and employees.”
