Two children were shot at the beginning of what became a fatality in Jackson, police said.
The 8-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy were shot in the back seat of a car.
The 2-year-old girl is expected to survive and the girl was recovering in a hospital, police said.
The shooting was one of five separate shootings in Jackson that left two people dead.
