One man was killed and three others were injured in a shooting accident in Tacoma.
Officers responded to the shooting at around 2 a.m. at 3600 BLK. From E McKinley Ave. The victim of an unresponsive man was found and three others were injured, Tacoma Police said. The Tacoma Fire Medics team implemented measures to save the man’s life, but he died at the scene.
A 28-year-old man was seriously injured, and a 32-year-old woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries. A 34-year-old man was taken to a local hospital separately with non-life-threatening injuries.
Tacoma Police spokeswoman, Officer Wendy Hado said that someone was running an “after-hours club” outside a housing unit on the top floor of the building, where the shooting occurred. Officers have responded to complaints in the past about large gatherings in the basement business unit, and Haddow says previous incidents in lower-level units had nothing to do with the shooting.
Neighbors say it’s been a problem for months.
“In December, the gunfire started and then every weekend,” said Marisol Zuniga. “It was a very quiet neighborhood, and then every time since they opened that club it was really messy,” she added.
Zونيñiga lives with her family just meters away from the shooting site. She says there had been a lot of gunshots over the past few weeks, and she wasn’t aware, at the time, of the severity of this latest incident until the news started to appear later.
“One person died, and it’s kind of scary to think about that. It was so close to our house,” she said.
This is an ongoing investigation. The identity of the victims or the possible suspects has not been released.
