Two people are killed and two others injured in a gun battle at a restaurant in Virginia.
Martinsville Police Chief Eddie Casade said the incident began with an argument between two groups at El Nortino restaurant.
Two Martinsville residents were killed at the scene and two others were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Virginia State Police said in a press release that the accident began at around 10:30 pm. When several customers in the bar area began to argue, weapons and bullets were produced.
Police said two men from Martinsville, aged 23 and 33, were killed. Their names have not been released pending notification of the next of kin.
The statement stated that a third man was expelled from the restaurant to the parking lot by two other men who started shooting at him.
A Martinsville police officer on patrol in his car heard the shots and ran to the scene. The statement stated that the officer shot the two armed men and hit one of them.
State police said the charges are pending but have not specified what the charges were or any possible suspects.
Because of the Martinsville police officer’s involvement, Virginia State Police takes over the investigation. The police did not immediately reveal the identity of the officer.
