Three officers were shot dead in High Point, North Carolina, during a night stand in which police said a man was holed up inside a house.
High Point Police Lieutenant Matt Truitt told news outlets that the two officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries, even though one officer may need surgery.
Police said the confrontation began late on Thursday after officers heard gunfire near a house.
Officers apparently spotted a man with a rifle on the balcony.
The man was reportedly holed up inside the house.
The suspect was accused of shooting at the officers, while tactical teams worked to remove him from the house. Police said the man was still immune.
People in the area were evacuated.
The police believe that no other people are inside the house and no one is injured.
