Philadelphia Police said a 9-year-old girl died after she was shot in the head inside a house in North Philadelphia.
Police Commissioner Daniel Ottlaw said that the officers were called to Building 2300 on North Bouvier Street around 11 am due to reports of gunfire.
The girl was at home with her brother, who was only 5 years old and 12 years old, without adult supervision. Police say the 12-year-old called 911.
It is heartbreaking. It’s very heartbreaking, said Larry Krasner, the Philadelphia district attorney. “It looks like we have more and more, and my office will do everything we can to support the trauma suffered by the children and others here.”
The child was taken to Temple University Hospital and placed in a critical condition. Police said she died shortly before 2 p.m.
Police are investigating the cause of the shooting. Two firearms were reportedly found inside the house.
