Muskogee, Oklahoma (ap) – Six people, including five young children, were shot dead at a home in Oklahoma, and a 25-year-old man suspected of involvement in the murder was arrested, police said.
At around 1:30 a.m., police officer Lyn Hamlin said that officers responded to a call from several people who had shot at a house in Muskogee.
Hamlin said authorities found a man and four children dead at the scene, and a fifth child died in Tulsa Hospital. Officers also encountered Jarrod Dijon Bridgon with a pistol and took him into custody.
Hamlin said the woman who was shot was in stable condition in the afternoon of a hospital.
The authorities have not released the names of the victims.
Hamlin described the murdered youths as “young children,” but said the police had not yet determined their ages. She said that the authorities do not know the motive but do not believe that any other suspects are involved.
Hamlin said the suspect and the victims were all living in the house, but the exact nature of their relationships had not been established.
Hamlin said, “It wasn’t random because they all lived in this house together, but as to what all of these relationships look like, we don’t know that yet.”
She said Bridget was not cooperating with investigators.
Prison records do not list which attorney can speak on Bridjon’s behalf.
Muskogee is a city of just under 40,000 people located 45 miles (70 kilometers) southeast of Tulsa.
