Officials said police have arrested a serial killer in connection with the killing of three elderly women in the same Brooklyn New York building.
The man, in his 60s, was arrested for killing three at the same Powell Street address in Woodson homes. The murders date back to 2015 and have left the population in terror.
His latest victim, Juanita Caballero, 78, was found inside her apartment on Powell Ave. A dead woman with a rope wrapped around her neck around 5 p.m. NYPD Public Housing cops have been stationed in the building since the murder.
Police said her adult son was found after she arrived to visit her home near Dumont Street in Brownsville.
The coroner determined that the cause of death was suffocation.
Two other elderly people were killed in their homes, in the same building, in 2015 and 2019. None of the cases have been resolved.
The first murder in November 2015 was Myrtle McKinney, 82, who police found dead on her kitchen floor. Initially treated as a death from natural causes, the case was later ruled a murder after a mortician noticed a knife wound in the back of her neck. She also suffered three rib fractures.
Four years later, in May 2019, Jaculia James, 83, was found dead in her apartment on the 11th floor of the same building, with trauma to her head and torso.
“I feel very happy if they bring charges and arrest someone for the crime,” said Linda James, daughter of Jaculia James. “My heart breaks because it took another loss for this to happen. Does it provide the lockdown? I don’t know it provides the conclusion for me. It causes guilt because maybe I could have done more to prevent the third from happening.”
