A 7-year-old girl from Guatemala died of cardiac arrest as a result of her health problems while being incarcerated by US border guards.
The girl, who was not named after her illegal crossing of the US border in New Mexico, was detained alongside her father and more than 100 other immigrants.
After 8 hours of detention, the child began to suffer from poor health.
Doctors revealed that the child did not eat or drink for several days.
Then she was transferred to a hospital in El Paso, Texas, where she died a day later, due to a cardiac arrest.
And US media said that the girl’s father is still in El Paso, awaiting a meeting with officials from the Guatemalan consulate.
The US border guards are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
“We express our sincere condolences to the girl’s family. The border guards did everything they could to save her life in the very difficult circumstances,” the newspaper quoted a representative of the US Border Guard Service.
Several large convoys of immigrants from Central American countries headed to the American borders through Mexican territory, and their total number reached about 10 thousand people.
