13 dead after a bus crash near Garner State Park

Several people were killed in a direct accident between a church bus and a minivan US 83 near Garner State Park. The accident occurred around 12:30 pm. About 75 miles west of San Antonio.

Authorities say 13 people were killed in the accident. 12 people died at the scene and another died later in hospital. All thirteen were elderly people returning from a church retreat.

A total of 14 people were on the bus, they were members of the First Baptist Church in New Brownville, Texas. One person from the bus was still in critical condition. The truck driver is in stable condition.

A statement posted on the church’s website stated that the members were returning home from a three-day retreat at the Alto Frio Baptist Camp.

The statement said that they were “serving family members to help them deal with this tragedy.”

Texas Governor Greg Abbott and his wife, Cecilia, offered their condolences after the accident.

“We are saddened by the loss of lives and our hearts are turning to all those affected. We thank the first responders who have acted on the scene in the wake of this unimaginable tragedy, and we ask all of the people of Texas to join us in offering their thoughts and prayers.”
