Police said a man in Round Lake Beach tracked down his stolen car and shot two teenagers, killing one of them during a confrontation in volo.
The Lake County and Wakunda Fire District Police Office responded at about 2:50 a.m. to the Route 12 and Route 120 area in Volo for an ongoing battle.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived and locate three people in a parking lot on Block 30400 of Route 12 in Volo.
Spokesman for Lake County Sheriff Sgt. Christopher Covelli said two of the individuals, both 17-year-old males from Carol Stream, were shot and killed at the scene.
A preliminary investigation showed that a 35-year-old man in Round Lake Beach had his car stolen several days ago and around 2:45 a.m. he identified it near Route 12 and Route 120.
Covelli said the two 17-year-olds were in the car and escaped from Round Lake Beach man in the stolen car.
The stolen car ran out of gas about one mile south of Route 120. The two capsized a car park on Block 30400 of Route 12.
A conflict arose between the three men, Covelli said, adding that a firearm was shown by one of the three people.
The 35-year-old shot the two 17-year-olds several times, wounding them.
One of the young men, aged 17 years, was shot and declared dead at the scene. The other 17-year-old was seriously injured and taken to a hospital in the area.
The 35-year-old sustained minor injuries from the fighting but was not shot and required no medical treatment. He stayed at the scene.
“The mayor’s office has no reason to believe that other individuals are involved in this incident and there is no direct threat to the surrounding community,” Covelli said.
Lake Coroner County Office has responded to the scene and an autopsy is scheduled for the 17-year-old deceased.
The accident is still under investigation by the Lake County Police Bureau’s Criminal Investigation Department
