A man from New York City was arrested for allegations that he strangled a woman until she passed out, raped her when she woke up, and stole her credit and debit cards.
City police said they charged Elijah Kelly, 23, with rape, theft, strangulation, and other crimes related to the attack around 11:45 p.m. Thursdays in midtown Manhattan. It was not immediately clear if Kelly had a lawyer who could answer the allegations.
Police said Kelly knocked on the door of a 27-year-old woman and told her he was delivering a parcel. When she opened the door, Kelly allegedly made his way inside and suffocated her until she fainted and raped her when she regained consciousness and forced her to give him credit, debit and PIN numbers, police said.
The woman called 911 and was taken to the hospital, where she was treated and discharged.
Police said a security camera recorded photos of Kelly before and after the attack.
