A pregnant woman was shot dead while sleeping at her boyfriend’s home in Connecticut early in the day, according to police and news reports.
Carla Bermudez, 22, six months pregnant, was shot by several shots fired at the Bridgeport home at around 5:30 in the morning, and her 23-year-old boyfriend was injured while sleeping next to her.
The case was not arrested and police said the wounded man refused to cooperate.
The newspaper said that his injuries did not threaten his life.
Bridgeport Police said, according to the Hartford Courant, “At this time, investigators believe that the two victims were asleep in bed when several bullets were fired at the house, hitting both of them.”
The department said on Twitter that policemen responded to the scene after receiving a notification from a shooting observer at 5:35 a.m. on Monday.
Bermudez was transferred to St. Vincent Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead and her unborn child also died.
Police told the station that they believed the shooting may be related to the killing of Bermudez’s cousin, Herberto Marquez, who was shot dead elsewhere in Connecticut.
“He destroyed everyone,” said Marquis’s mother. “I thought it was a dream but when I woke up, it really struck me and there was no dream.”
