Local authorities said one person was killed and seven others were wounded in a drive-by shooting at a basketball court in Tampa, Florida.
Investigators believe that a group of people traveling in a car with darkened windows fired several shots as they drove near a basketball court.
The shooting was not random and the group was being targeted.
An officer said that a 36-year-old man died of wounds after arriving at the hospital, while two other victims were in critical condition and five were in stable condition.
All victims are between the ages of 17 and 36.
Hillsborough County investigators were trying to determine the motive for the attack.
“We lost a life tonight due to senseless acts of violence,” Sheriff Chad Kronister said in a statement.
He added, “We aim to restore peace to this community and we will continue to crack down on those who cause harm.”
