Florida’s overall crime rate decreased during the first six months of 2020, but homicides rose over the same period of the previous year, according to statistics from the state’s highest law enforcement agency.
Overall, crime decreased 11.7%, but homicides rose from 512 to 595, or 16.2%, according to Florida’s Department of Law Enforcement. Gun murders increased by a higher rate. 379 people were killed with a firearm in the first six months of 2019, compared to 466 in 2020. This is an increase of 23%.
Reported rapes decreased by 9.5%, from 4,224 in the first half of 2019 to 3,821 during the same period in 2020.
Robberies, robberies and robberies also decreased, while there was an increase in car thefts and aggravated assaults.
