Police said a five-year-old boy was killed when a small train hit a pickup truck as a family waited to enter a Christmas lights show in central California.

Police Lieutenant Andre Benson said the truck, which was carrying four people, had stopped at an intersection in Fresno when an Amtrak train collided with it on Tuesday evening.

Benson said investigators are trying to determine how the car tripped the tracks and whether the railroad crossing gate was functioning properly.

The boy was identified by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office as 5-year-old Anton Solorio from Fresno,

The station reported that three other people in the truck, including the boy’s mother, were taken to hospital to receive treatment for minor injuries.

None of the 50 passengers on the train were hurt.

At the time of the accident, a long line of cars was waiting to enter the Christmas Tree Lane, a popular holiday show for nearly a century. It is usually open for the public to walk all the way to see the festive lights. This year due to the Coronavirus pandemic, gravity is restricted to the vehicles that pass through it
