A one-year-old girl from Texas was killed and her 9-year-old brother was injured after a teenage neighbor showed up at their home with a gun, according to new reports.
The girl was shot in the head at a house in Windmill Hills, Forney, around 5:15 pm.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her brother, whose finger was severed, is now in stable condition at Dallas Hospital, citing the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office.
Law enforcement officials and neighbors confirmed to the outlet that the house was a single parent’s home, and that the parent left his three children unattended to do a task.
During that time, the neighbor, a 14-year-old boy, appeared without warning with a loaded pistol and was invited, according to the report.
It was not immediately clear how the accident developed from there.
The teen was held for questioning, and no charges were immediately brought forward.
