Authorities said a Louisiana man shot his wife before killing himself just days after obtaining the divorce papers.
The bodies of Kevin Venerty, 59, and his wife, Siobhan Venerty, also 59, were discovered on Monday at their home in Metairie after she failed to come to work, officials of Jefferson Parish Mayor said.
The couple separated in March, but still shared their home “due to the COVID pandemic only and the government imposed closures” while sleeping in separate bedrooms, according to the divorce request.
The Fenertys were unable to fix their ailing marriage over a period of nine months, culminating with Siobhan filing for divorce papers for her husband, according to records passed on to the enforcer.
Kevin Finerty was identified by forensic officials in Jefferson Parish. His wife was identified with multiple gunshot wounds, including a head injury
Investigators said they suspected Finerte killed himself after he shot his wife just four days after he obtained the divorce papers.
A spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, Captain Jason Rivardi, said: “We believe it is possible that he was upset with the deposit.”
