Scientists at New York University during their scientific research discovered what is a potential vulnerability in the corona virus.
It turns out that the virus is virtually incapable of replicating if protein 41В, which is involved in the process of forming a membrane that protects the genetic material for SARS-CoV-2, is lost.
The author of a scientific article on this matter, William Schneider, said that the corona virus is unable to replicate in conditions of the absence of the mentioned protein.
Scientists have followed the reproduction process in other viruses, such as yellow fever virus and Zika virus. The results of the comparison between SARS-CoV-2, on the one hand, and Zika and yellow fever, on the other hand, confirmed that the protein plays a pivotal role in the ability of the virus to penetrate into the human body.
Scientists said that their discovery may help in developing new drugs against “Covid-19”.
