Mississippi authorities found four bodies after the sheriff’s department received calls about people not showing up for work.
Investigators said a person believed to be the only suspect in the case later died from what appeared to be a gunshot wound after he led police into a chase.
The bodies were found in Lauderdale County in eastern Mississippi. Three of them were in one house and the other in another.
Lauderdale County Vice President Ward Calhoun said MPs went in the early afternoon to check on several people who had not come to work and encountered the bodies. He added that the only person identified as a suspect was involved in a manhunt in Lamar County, about 125 miles (200 kilometers) to the southwest.
Suspect was developed quickly. The information was published and I understand that the Lamar County Police Department and Highway Patrol (Mississippi) identified the suspected vehicle and there was a short chase, ”Calhoun said, adding that the person died after shooting himself.
Authorities said it appeared that the suspect had rammed his truck into the tree line near Lumberton, south of Hattiesburg.
