Florida police are investigating the murder of a 21-year-old college baseball player.
The Palm Beach Post reported that Derek Baker’s body was found Sunday in an apartment near the Keizer University campus in West Palm Beach.
Police have released few details about the case.
In a statement on Twitter, Keizer University CEO and advisor Arthur Keizer said that Baker had attended the school’s main campus and played on the Seahawk baseball team. He attended Cohoes High School near Albany, New York.
Keizer coach Brooke Fordyce said Baker was an outstanding baseball player, friend and partner of “those who touch their lives”. The school website listed him as a player.
The team plans to celebrate its life during the upcoming baseball season.
School officials said in a statement that they are cooperating with West Palm Beach Police. The shooting occurred in an off-campus apartment and officials said few students were on campus during the winter break.
