Officials said at least nine people drowned while swimming in a river in Arizona when torrential rains struck the area.
The fire department said it said authorities were searching for at least one missing person after the incident in the River Verde near Payson, about 145 km northeast of Phoenix.
Local media reported that at least two children were among the dead. The police chief’s office did not give details of the dead or missing.
