Mother kills her child and injures the other in San Antonio

Police said a mother shot and killed her 10-year-old son and wounded her 16-year-old daughter before she shot herself.

“I knew the mother and her children – we are very, very sad,” said the man’s wife, adding that for 15 years the couple had known the family who lived in a house in Building 500 of Wilderness Road, where firstly- respondents encountered a horrific scene shortly before 10 am

“Officers arrived at the scene at 9:55 am and found three people suffering from gunshot wounds in what was being investigated as a murder / suicide,” said David Ferguson, the city communications coordinator.

Ferguson said a 43-year-old woman, identified as Chelsee Dodd of New Braunfels, and a 10-year-old boy, Trace Dodd of New Braunfels, both suffered fatal gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene by Precinct 2 Justice of The Peace Rick Walker who ordered the autopsy.

“A 16-year-old woman was found conscious and breathing with a serious wound, possibly threatening her life, due to a gunshot wound,” Ferguson said, adding that she was transported by EMS on the ground to the University Hospital in San Antonio, where she was reported in critical condition Thursday. evening.

Neighbors, whose place of residence was “around the corner” of the family, said nothing did not indicate something like this had happened.

“I have known the little boy since he was two or three years old and he was very agitated like a little kid; the woman said“ The daughter was a little older. ”The father lost his job and found another out of town, but they rented their house here. But I understand she wanted to go back because she loved the place is here a lot.

“Last summer she had a garage sale and it seemed fine then … I wasn’t that close and they were much younger in our late 70’s. But who knows what happens in families – sometimes, people turn.”

Ferguson said the NBPD Criminal Investigation Department “is investigating this case as it appears to be a murder / suicide. Initial results indicate that the two juveniles (brother and sister) are victims in this case and that the suspect is the adult female (who is their mother).”

Ferguson said Oak Run Middle School and Firamendi Elementary School of New Brownville Independent School of New Braunfels County, along with nearby New Braunfels Christian Academy, were put into a “very short” lockdown when officers arrived at the scene.

“This closure was quickly lifted after the officers secured the site and those schools resumed their normal activities,” he said.

NBISD Principal Randy Muzigimba confirmed that the children were students at Veramendi Elementary School and New Braunfels High School.

“The younger brother was in Veramendi’s fourth grade and we have been informed that he has not escaped his injury,” Moczygemba said. His older sister, who has attended New Brownville High School, has been hospitalized.

“We mourn for all those affected and provide our support as needed. It is difficult to understand the loss of any life, especially the loss of one of our students.”

The district said grief counselors are on standby. It is not known if both children are distance or on-campus learners.

“A crisis counseling team has been assembled in both schools and we encourage you to talk to your child about their feelings upon hearing this news,” Moczygemba said. “Every child will interact in different ways and we want to make sure they get the support they need.
