A mother and son died and a teenage girl was injured in a murder and apparent suicide at a home in New Brownville, according to police.
According to the New Braunfels Police Department, police and firefighting crew responded to a home on Block 500 of Wilderness Road just before 10 a.m. to obtain a report of a potential gunshot victim. When the officers arrived at the scene, they found three people with bullet wounds.
Chelsea Dodd, 43, and her 10-year-old son, Trace, both from New Brownville, were announced dead at the scene. Police say that the closest relatives of both have been notified.
A 16-year-old girl was also found at the scene, conscious and breathing, with a serious gunshot injury that could threaten her life, New Brownville Police say. Transferred by EMS land to University Hospital.
New Braunfels Police say they are investigating the case as apparently murder and suicide and that a preliminary investigation shows that the 10-year-old boy and the 16-year-old girl are victims in the car and the woman is the suspect.
Police say they have ordered an autopsy.
As a precaution and at the request of the New Brownville Police Department, Oak Run Middle School, Firmendy Elementary School and New Brownville Christian Academy were put into a very short lockdown this morning when officers arrived at the scene. This shutdown was quickly lifted after officers secured the scene and those schools resumed their normal activities.
