
Chicago mourns an emergency room doctor, drugstore resident, and police officer killed after a man opened fire at Chicago’s Mercy Hospital and South Side Medical Center.
“These tears are for the soul of our city. It is the face and the result of evil,” the city mayor told reporters.
The Chicago Police Inspectorate identified the dead officer as 28-year-old Samuel Jimenez, who joined the force last year and was assigned to District Two in the city. He was the father of three children

Mercy Hospital identified the victims as 38-year-old emergency room physician Tamara O’Neill and 25-year-old pharmacy resident Danae Liss.
Mercy Hospital actress O’Neill, in her voice interrupted by emotion, described her as a devoted Christian “dedicated to caring for her community, a wonderful individual.” He said that Less recently joined the hospital after graduating from Purdue University.
“The hospital should be a safe place,” the actor told a news conference. “It is particularly meaningless when shooting occurs in the hospital area of the hospital.”
The gunman was killed during an exchange of fire with the officers, although police say it is not clear if the fatal bullet was of its own accord.
