Eight people killed, including the suspect, after a house shooting in Plano, Texas, North Texas authorities said.
The shooting took place around 8 pm. The city is less than 20 miles (32.19 kilometers) northeast of Dallas.
Plano police spokesman David Tilly said the police initially responded to reports of gunfire. When the first officer arrived and entered the house, the officer encountered the suspected shooter.
Tilly said the officer opened fire, killing the suspect. Two others were wounded in the shooting. Their circumstances have not been released.
The victims and the suspect have not been identified. All of the dead and wounded are believed to be adults.
The police also did not specify the motive behind the shooting. Additional details were not immediately available.
Tilly said that shooting of this magnitude was unusual for Plano, especially in such a quiet neighborhood. He was unable to determine whether the police had been called to the house.
The police investigation continues.
