Pennsylvania State Police reported that a crash between a horse, a cart and a dumper left four people dead and four others injured. The accident occurred about 6 miles south of Quarryville, in Lancaster County, just before 8 a.m., according to State Police Trooper Kelly Osborne.

Soldiers remained at the scene and said they would release more details at a later time.

Carriages are common in Lancaster County, which hosts a large Amish settlement, and several fatal accidents have been reported over the years. Previously, the collision of a pickup truck, horse and cart killed an Amish teenager and seriously injured three other people. In June, a 10-month-old girl died after crashing into an Amish horse-drawn carriage she was riding in.
