Sheriff Javier Salazar said that a woman was shot dead after skiing earlier this week, killed by her cell phone.
Salazar announced that two people have been arrested in connection with the murder of Giovanna Barrera, 24. She was sitting in her car taking off her sleds, when Daniel Calvillo, 28, walked in and asked for her phone, Salazar said.
Parreira dropped her phone under her seat when investigators said Calvillo had shot Parreira in the head. The second defendant in the case, Keyana Jones, 20, is accused of removing Calvillo from the scene.
“It doesn’t look like there was any connection between them [the suspects] and Giovanna,” Salazar said. Daniel Calvillo wanted her cell phone. Since she was distracted while taking off her ski boots and getting ready to go inside for dinner, he approached her and asked for her phone. It seems like Giovanna refused and dropped her phone under the seat of her car. Which is actually where we found her cell phone. At that point, Calvillo, in cold blood at close range, apparently shot her in the head, with what we collect, there was no remorse at all. “
MPs said they had very limited information but were still able to obtain a license plate that would allow them to put together a monitoring team and track down Calvillo and Jones.
Calvillo is accused of premeditated murder. Jones is currently facing a gun felony charge, but Salazar added that she may face a premeditated murder as well.
“Believe it or not, she drove the escape car of a high-profile murder suspect. Salazar said she knew what he did and yet she was helping him escape.” Quite frankly, if I had my colleagues, she would be charged with premeditated murder. I hope you will, very soon. “
