One person was killed and three were injured in an explosion and fire at a chemical plant in Bell, West Virginia.

Chemicals said in a statement that the accident occurred after 10 pm at a leased Optima Chemicals plant at a site owned by Chemicals in Bell.

After the accident, local officials in Bell City ordered residents within a 3.2-km radius around the plant to stay home, but canceled the order a few hours later.

The Kanah county commissioner told local WCS and WWVHH that officials believed that dry chlorine bleach and methanol were the two substances responsible for the explosion.

He added, Kanah Province did not specify the cause of the explosion. Other agencies will determine the reason, and it is up to them and the company to release this information
