A gunman broke into the newsroom of a local newspaper chain in the Maryland capital, killing five employees and wounding two others.
The suspect, identified by US law enforcement officials as Jarrod W. Ramos, 38, was arrested at the scene. Ramos has had a long history of struggling with the news outlet.
“This was a targeted attack on the Capital Gazette,” said Acting Chief of the Ann Arundel County Police Department. This person was ready to shoot people, he meant to do harm.
Police, arriving at the scene within minutes of the reported shooting, have arrested the gunman, who was found hiding under a desk in the newsroom, according to a senior official in Ann Arundel County.
