A man from Johnson City was killed in a collision after his car was collided head-on with a stolen commercial vehicle, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
According to THP, the dispatch was notified about a stolen commercial vehicle. Soldiers discovered the stolen car, a 2005 Peterbelt, on Interstate 36 in Washington County.
Soldiers attempted to stop the traffic, but the driver continued south on Interstate 36 in Sullivan County. Officials added that the car was running choppy and without the headlights turning on.
The driver turned on a red light at the intersection of Interstate 36 and Interstate 75, crossed the midfield, and hit the 1997 Saturn SL1 on Interstate 36 near Ed Martin Road in Washington County, according to THP.
Saturn’s driver, Timmy Hensley, 60, was killed.
According to THP, the charges are pending against the stolen Peterbelt driver.
