Two killed in a single-engine plane crash in South Dakota

Officials said a single-engine plane crashed in eastern South Dakota, killing two people.

The Brown County Mayor’s office said the plane went down north of Groton near the airport where the Groton Fly-in / Drive-in was housed this weekend.

Scott Mints, director of the Brown County Emergency Department, said the accident was linked to the airshow. Groton is located about 170 miles (270 kilometers) northwest of Sioux Falls

Dave Lonsman, deputy chief of the Brown County Police Office, said two people were on the plane. Brown County pathologist Michael Carlsen said one person died at the scene and declared another dead at St. Luke’s Avira Hospital,

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating.
