Five people were killed in a traffic accident after a car drove in the wrong direction on a highway over the weekend.
The accident occurred at around 2:15 a.m. local time in Lorenz County, South Carolina, along Interstate 385, a state troop spokesman told the Associated Press. According to the site, the five people were passengers in two different cars, and four of them died at the scene, while another death was announced at a later time in a local hospital.
Kia 2014 went the wrong way, hitting the 2020 Hyundai head-on.
A South Carolina Highway Patrol spokesman did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
The Associated Press indicated that the incident is still under investigation, adding that the names of the victims have not been released.
