Read troupe is an Egyptian dance troupe that started at the end of the fifties of the last century under the leadership of Mahmud Read and performed well-received performances. It is considered the first special folklore troupe.
The artist Mahmoud Reda participated in the formation of the first special troupe for folk arts, in partnership with the first dancer, designer and composer, Ali Reda, and the first dancer, Farida Fahmy, after the sudden departure of the artist Naima Akef, in addition to her experience in training and designing costumes, and thus the band presented its first performances at the Azbakia theater in August of 2015 1959, and the number of its members at its founding reached 13 dancers, 13 dancers, and 13 musicians, most of them qualified university graduates, and Mahmoud Reda designed the dances that he inspired from the arts of the countryside, coasts, Upper and wild, and directed them under the supervision and patronage of Dr. Hassan Fahmy, and thanks to this sophisticated training he acquired the art The dance respects all classes of society.
In 1961, a republican decree was issued to add the band to the Ministry of Culture. The band became affiliated with the state and was managed by the two brothers, Mahmoud and Ali Reda, and in 1962 the band’s performances moved to the Metropole Theater, where it had a special approach and distinctive features in belly dancing shows, and then the technical meeting between Mahmoud Reda and the musician Ali Ismail, who produced the first folk art orchestra Led by him, who has redistributed music for the band’s previous work, composing show operas

After that, the troupe moved to the 26th of July theater at Ataba, then the Engineers Syndicate Theater, then the Egyptian Opera House, and finally the Balloon theater, where they settled until now. In the seventies, the number of artists, including dancers, dancers and musicians, reached 180, at that time Mahmoud Reda decided to divide the group into three sections:
The main team that presents performances inside and outside Egypt.
A team representing the second row of the squad.
A team consisting of groups under training.
After that, a center was established to graduate batches of members to support the troupe, which is the school of the Rida band for new talents. In the eighties, the group presented a new color of dance, which is the dancing muwashahat, which met with great success, including: “Aaja Ghazal Ghazal Aajba Fighting” and “Moashah“ Lahd Rana ”written and composed by Fouad Abdal Majeed.
