5 dead, including a child, in a head-on crash in Texas

Authorities said five people, including a 2 1/2 year-old child, were killed in a head-on collision in Texas.

According to police, the accident occurred just before 4 am on US Highway 59 in Wharton County. Wharton police said a black Cadillac crossed the midfield, entered oncoming traffic, and collided with a Nissan Altima, media reported.

Four adults, including a Cadillac driver and three people in Altima, died at the scene, according to police, who said that two children in Altima – two 1/2 and a 6-month-old baby – were taken to hospitals, where the baby died. No further information on the infant’s condition was immediately available.

The authorities have not released the names of the victims
