Police in Detroit, in the United States, said that one of their personnel was shot and injured during the investigation of a burglary on a house in the west side of the city.
Police Chief James Craig told “Reuters”, that a policeman working as a volunteer in the police force was killed by a bullet in the neck launched from a rifle, while another was seriously injured in the leg.
The rest of the police officers responded by shooting and wounding the unknown gunman. The suspect was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital, in critical condition.
“It’s a tragic day for the Detroit police, as they descended the stairs, the suspect, who was armed with a rifle, opened fire on the police,” Craig said.
Statistics announced by the FBI revealed that 55 policemen were shot dead while performing duty.
