A 3-year-old boy in Texas was killed on his birthday after being shot, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
Sharif’s office said the child, who died in Porter, was with family members who had gathered to celebrate the child’s birthday when the accident occurred.
Family members were playing cards when they heard a gunshot and found the child had a chest wound.
Investigators believe the child found the gun involved in the accident after it allegedly fell from the pocket of a family member. The boy was taken to a nearby fire station, where he succumbed to his wounds.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of this tragic accident,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.
