A lawsuit is being filed against Publix by the family of an employee who has died of COVID-19.
According to a report by WPLG, the family of 70-year-old Gerardo Gutierrez has filed a lawsuit against the supermarket chain.
The family alleges that Publix “banned employees” from wearing masks and gloves, even though Gutierrez wanted to wear one.
On April 2, the lawsuit alleges that Publix sent Gutierrez home from work and told him to self-isolate. Five days later, Gutierrez tested positive for COVID-19, and Gutierrez went to the hospital. Family members met via Zoom to say their farewell after a priest read him his last rites in, right before his death, WPLG reported. His family now wants compensation of more than $ 30,000.
