A Philadelphia police officer shot and killed a suspect after a shootout in Kensington.
Investigators say that officers first met the man behind the wheel of a red Mustang on B Street around 1:30 p.m.
When they approached, the police said they had spotted a pistol in his hand, and he hurried away. Police chased him until he crashed in Ruth and Somerset.
Two blocks away, an officer ran into the fleeing man and the suspect and the officer exchanged fire.
“The man was ordered to stop and show his hands. The man made a pistol and fired at least two shots at our officer. Our officer responded by firing at least twice, and beating the man,” Philly Police Sgt. Eric Grip said.
The 39-year-old was taken to Temple University Hospital by police where he died. The 24 district officers were not injured.
A pistol was found at the scene. The investigation is underway.
