Seven people were shot, including one in Chicago.
In the Lonely Fatal Day attack, a woman was killed and a man was wounded in East Garfield Park on the West Side.
The couple, a 21-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man, were in a car heading south around 4 p.m. Chicago police said when a person in a dark-colored car stopped next to them and opened fire on the 400th block of South Hamlin Boulevard.
The woman was injured in the stomach and thigh and was declared dead in Mt. Police said Sinai Hospital. The Cook County Medical Examiner Office identified her as Catrice Ware.
Police said the man was taken to the same hospital with a gunshot wound in the leg. His condition has stabilized.
The last reported attack seriously injured a teenage boy in Chatham on the south side.
The boy, 17, was in an alley around 5:35 p.m. At 8200 Block of South Vernon Avenue when a gray car pulled up and someone in it shot him, Chicago Police said. He was shot in the chest and the right side, and was transferred to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
Less than an hour ago, a 25-year-old man was shot during a fight in Fernwood on the south side.
Chicago police said that at around 4:40 p.m., he had a physical altercation with someone at a house in the 10400 block of South Wentworth Avenue. Then the person shot the 25-year-old, hitting him in the left thigh. He was transferred to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he settled.
Police said the person who shot the gun was taken to Rosland Hospital due to shortness of breath and was in good condition. Police sources said the person who shot the 25-year-old had a valid firearm owner’s ID card and a concealed carry license.
About 20 minutes ago, two men were seriously injured in a shooting near a liquor store in Lundell on the West Side.
They were standing outside the Brother 5 Food & Liquor store, 3009 W. Roosevelt Rd. , Around 4:30 pm. Chicago Deputy Police Chief Ernest Cato said when a silver car pulled over and “stopped right in front of them.” And that’s when three people got out of the car and started shooting at the men.
Police said a 29-year-old man was hit by a live bullet in the body and a 22-year-old man was wounded in the back and neck. Both of them were in critical condition.
In the first reported attack of the day, a 26-year-old man was shot in the back while driving in Bronzeville on the south side.
Police stated that the shooting took place around 11:55 a.m. at the 3900th Block of South Michigan Avenue. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition.
Ten people were wounded in citywide gunfire.
