Investigators said that a gunman barricaded inside a house in North Miami Beach was killed during an exchange of fire with police officers responding.
According to Miami-Dade Police, the accident occurred in the northwest area of 171st Street and North Miami Street, near Jackson North Medical Center.
Cameras captured an active scene, with several MDPD cruisers, special response teams and a mobile command unit.
Investigators said the shooting was related to a special response team call they received about a fortified topic, around 2 p.m.
Before the officers arrived at the scene, there was a domestic dispute inside the house where a family member grabbed a gun.
Shortly after the police arrived, all other family members left the house, but the subject refused to leave.
The negotiators pleaded with the hostages for several hours to come out, but to no avail.
Officials said that Special Response Team units entered the home around 8 p.m.
There was a confrontation, a shootout. “The subject was infected,” investigator Christopher Welsh said at MDPD.
Medics took the man to Aventura Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The identity of the 41-year-old has not been revealed.
None of the officers were injured.
It remains unclear how many people were inside the house, what caused the quarrel, how many officers entered and how many shots were fired.
Florida law enforcement is investigating the accident.
