Metro police are investigating whether the fatal shooting in a gas station parking lot in Nashville was in self-defense.
According to MNPD, Dwight Stewart, 60, was found lying beside his truck in the parking lot of a Marathon gas station on the 200th block of West Trinity Lane near Interstate 65 before 8 a.m.
Police said a surveillance video showed Stuart Park at the gas station of his Dodge Ram, followed shortly after by a white pickup truck. Stewart is seen getting out of his car with a pistol and approaching the white van and there was an apparent exchange of fire.
Stewart ran back to his car and fell to the ground. Police said he was taken to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center and died in hospital.
Police said that the white van fled the scene, but two men later arrived at different hospitals with non-life-threatening bullets. During the interviews with the two men, police said they learned Stewart was in an ongoing dispute with Danny Dickson, one of the injured men, over a stolen pistol.
No charges have been filed and police are investigating whether the shooting was in self-defense.
